Ultima Underworld was a first for many things. Being the first first-person RPG, and a great inspiration to doom, the game has quite a legacy. You start off in the top of the Abyss looking for a kidnapped girl to clear your name. As you dive down deeper and deeper into the abyss you meet settlements of different races such as dwarfs, humans, goblins and many other races. you can choose to befriend, help, join, or even become enemies with each faction. The magic system is very complex and rely on runes found across the map. The game is often described as a “Dungeon Simulator” as it takes hunger into account. Combat can either be pitifully easy to a terrible mistake depending on what you have and what you’re up against. You’ll find yourself wandering around for hours finding out new things and getting better armour or even finding treasure. This game is great to waste time in and feels rewarding when you actually get stuff done. Overall, I give this game an 8/10.
