Softball was first invented in the year 1887 in Chicago, Illionois as an indoor game. It was normally called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground, softbund ball, kitten ball, and just because women and girls played, women's baseball.

Softball was first given it's current name, of what we know today, in the 1920's.

Women's fast-pitch softball never became an Olympic sport until 1996, and had been dropped from the 2012 Olympics in 2005.

Women's baseball has been played in China, Japan, and Australia.
