At the beginning of the season the Monroe Hornets baseball team was anxiously awaiting the first game. After last year’s record (24- 6), the Hornets were ready to supersede the competitive edge they displayed last year. The Hornets have easily forgotten the tough defeat in the semi-finals last year in the Division III tournament. With a returning seven of nine starters (losing Tyler Ott and Nick Davis to graduation), the expectations for the ’08 boys are at their highest.

The Hornets recently demolished the Northridge competition in a 19 to 0 shut out on April 16. Kevin Enchelmeyer led the Hornet’s 14-hit attack; batting 4-for-4 with 3 RBI’s and 3 doubles. Devin King went 2-for-3 at bat, with a double and 2 RBI’s. In a double header against Landmark Christian on Friday, April 18, the team had an 11- 9 and 6-3 sweep. Monday, April 21, the guys took the Madison Mohawks 5-3. Kevin Enchelmeyer came in to the game batting .500 for the season. Jake Hofer commented: “He’s just been absolutely on fire lately.” The Monroe Hornets boy’s varsity baseball team is making their school proud. They are the only team left in the league to be undefeated currently. They expected to come in with great results and have made their expectations clear. The team is 9-2-1 overall and 6-0 in the South Western Buckeye League. It looks like we can be anticipating a playoff spot this year.
